Benefits of Nitric Oxide Supplements
5 benefits you'll receive from Nitric Oxide supplements
Finding the best supplement is harder than searching for a needle in a haystack. There hundreds--if not thousands--of options to choose from. Should you buy whey or casein? Creatine or conjugated linoleic acid?
When you finally narrow it down, make sure nitric oxide supplements are in your top 3. These performance-enhancing supplements are popular for a reason.
Just look at these 5 benefits of nitric oxide supplements and you’ll see why.

1. Enhanced Blood Flow
Endothelial cells layer the inside surface of blood vessels. When blood pressure increases, the strain causes endothelial cells to release nitric oxide.
Nitric oxide is a signaling molecule. Its daily duties include regulating the 50+ trillion cells in your body. When blood pressure increases, nitric oxide’s biggest concern is providing relief. So, it signals smooth muscles to relax, which causes blood vessels to expand. Not only does this reduce blood pressure, it increases blood flow.
Aging, obesity, inactivity, smoking, and high blood pressure damage the endothelial cells over time. As a result, they don’t produce as much nitric oxide. And that’s when nitric oxide supplements come in handy.
Arginine and citrulline are the amino acids your body uses to make nitric oxide. Consequently, they are also the main ingredients in nitric oxide supplements.
Enhanced blood flow is a huge benefit in itself. It also makes these amazing benefits possible:
- Better oxygen and nutrient delivery
- Increased vascularity and muscle pumps
- Faster muscle recovery and repair
- More energy and endurance during exerciset
- And there’s more...

2. A Healthy Heart
When was the last time you thought about heart health? Although heart disease remains the #1 killer in the US, many people don’t think about heart health enough. Then again, if you take a nitric oxide supplement, you may not need to think about it.
“In the heart, nitric oxide is the body’s way of protecting against cardiovascular disease,” says Dr. Louis Ignarro, Nobel Prize winner and nitric oxide researcher. Ignarro goes on to explain this benefit comes because nitric oxide...enhances blood flow!
“It’s important therefore to maintain healthy levels of arginine at all times,” Ignarro adds. Something you can do with a high-quality nitric oxide supplement.

3. Increased Muscle Strength
Whether you’re opening a jar or doing dead lifts, everyone needs a little extra strength from time to time. Well, today’s your lucky day because nitric oxide is proven to increase muscle strength. Here’s how the discovery came about...
Researchers gave arginine or a placebo to athletic men 3x a day. For 8 weeks, all the men did strength exercises such as bench presses. The result? The men who took arginine had more strength and performed better during workouts.[1]

4. Stronger Immunity
When it’s not controlling blood flow, nitric oxide hunts down bacteria, parasites, and viruses. Besides killing these pathogens, nitric oxide enhances immune cell memory. So next time, the white blood cells respond better and faster.[2]
Nitric oxide works closely with “Killer T-Cells.” They reproduce and respond to nitric oxide. In turn, nitric oxide creates more T-Cells and increases their strength of attack.[3]
According to research, nitric oxide supplements improve immunity and help the body fight off infections faster.[4]

5. Pain Relief
“Nerves can only function if they are structurally intact,” explains Thomas Burke, PhD. If circulation is poor, nerve structures are damaged and pain increases. Lack of adequate oxygen and nutrients also causes pain levels to soar. Fortunately, “nitric oxide offers pain relief in a number of ways,” Burke says.
- Nitric oxide improves blood circulation
- Nitric oxide increases cGMP
cGMP is the mechanism by which opioids (i.e. morphine) function. Here’s how it works: morphine attaches to nerve cells and releases nitric oxide. With cGMP’s help, nitric oxide quickly alleviates pain in that area.[5]
Nitric oxide supplements are used regularly to reduce certain types of pain.[6]
Conclusion
Nitric oxide supplements are best-sellers in the bodybuilding and athletic industries. But--as you can see from the above benefits--these supplements aren’t just for the highly trained.
Want to improve your circulation and heart health? Grab a nitric oxide supplement. Need some extra strength or pain relief? Nitric oxide supplements do that and more.
